From 23 to 29 August, the 14th Nida Doctoral School (NDS), ‘Doctorate for the Artists as a Gift and a Trap: about well-being and hard times together’, takes place at Nida Art Colony of Vilnius Academy of Arts. It brings together 16 doctoral candidates and 7 tutors from 10 art schools across Europe.
Throughout the week, doctoral candidates and tutors work across different formats, including Pecha Kucha and group presentations, individual and collective writing, one-to-one consultations, discussions and research exercises in and around Nida. The programme includes a performative artistic research workshop with Irina Gheorghe and a lecture and workshop by Mika Elo exploring questions of evidence in artistic research.
Moving beyond the conference room, participants also take part in a collective scripted walk through the Curonian Spit landscape, an olfactory walk by NAC researcher-in-residence Dovilė Džervutė-Laurinkienė, and other informal formats for exchanging research, ideas and experiences.
Nida Doctoral School is an annual intensive programme bringing together DFA and PhD candidates from different disciplines and institutions to share and develop their research in a collegial and experimental environment.
