The NAC Nightlife Events Programme is a series of collaborative events played out at local bars, clubs, and other friendly institutions in Nida, scattered throughout the summer.
The first event of the programme in July is organized by DAR. SYNTH Porn (2020) is a mixed-media performance by composer Agnė Matulevičiūtė (also known as Agnès M) together with Edvinas Kopcevas following Agnès M album of the same name which was presented online this July. The musical atmosphere of the work is created not only by modular and analog synthesizers, but also by live instruments, voice, and quotes from film characters and poets talking about relationships, love, and emptiness. SYNTH Porn explores the boundaries between mediation and publicity, which is why Thomas Mann House – a once private space turned public – was chosen for the event.
Agnė Matulevičiūtė is a composer and sound artist based in Vilnius. Matulevičiūtė's primary field of interest is the area beyond sound, including its contexts, discourses, and application in both musical and sound art compositions. Matulevičiūtė has participated in various group exhibitions and music festivals, e.g., SPOT, Vilnius (2020), Drukomanija, Druskininkai (2019), Paviršius yra istorija, Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania, Vilnius (2017). Composer has written music for internationally screened films and stage productions by Lithuanian theatre companies, e. g., Lino kančia, Žmogus iš žuvies (2020), Izaokas (2019), and Konkursas (2018). She is the artistic director of Muzika erdvėje festival.
Druskininkai Artists’ Residence, or DAR, is a programme launched by the Lithuanian Composers’ Union back in 2011. Aimed at composers from Lithuania and beyond, it facilitates international cultural exchange and encourages collaboration between different artists who are expected to draw professional audiences and local residents to their new projects created in the resort town of Druskininkai.
The event is curated by Milda Laužikaitė as a part of NAC Summer Nightlife Events Programme in partnership with DAR and Thomas Mann House.
The programme is co-funded by Lithuanian Council for Culture.
