My Own Private Ghost Town is a site specific sculpture by Anastasia Sosunova developed and realised in 2021 and 2022 at NAC with the support of architect and educator Anton Shramkov.

Sosunova’s sculpture contributes to NAC’s open air territory in addition to other works and projects including the concrete fireplace ensemble by Žilvinas Landzbergas, the timber drying shed by Jurga Daubaraitė and Jonas Žukauskas, the garden layout by Povilas Marozas and Vilma Gudynienė continued by the Nida Garden Collective in 2022 and SupaStore by Sarah Staton.

The sculpture is accompanied by a publication with a text and image collage by Sosunova, providing insight into the reference material, and especially the background of the work’s title that serves as an homage to discussions between Shramkov and Sosunova on urban planning in Nida, the creation of ghost towns, why humans build houses for birds, and Sosunova’s previous interests in haunting, real estate development in Lithuania and magical thinking.

The work is structured as a composition of pine boxes covered with sculpted concrete in the form of a modular bird house bastion. It is thought to be used by swifts, starlings, bats, spiders and others wanting to find refuge. The plastic bottles on the poles are for seeds, and will be used during the cold months as bird feeders. The orange plexi-glas shapes form the sculpture’s title, distributed and integrated in the sculpture’s structure as word pairings.

My Own Private Ghost Town was commissioned by Nida Art Colony of Vilnius Academy of Arts in collaboration with the art space Swallow in 2021 and 2022.
