During her residency at NAC, Helga  Packevičiūtė has engaged in material exploration in order to examine the relationship between our perception and the natural and built environment. In this, Helga has constructed her own steam box for wood bending as a form of public engagement to question how we view design materials. By using fragile, leftover off-cuts of local timber, she is anticipating to elevate these materials into sculptural objects. If such material traditionally considered waste and thus often discarded and forgotten, can be transformed into works of art, then what other materials held in disrepute can find new life?

Organised by Helga Packevičiūtė as part of her NAC artist residency.
