Residency Exchange Between MASS Alexandria and NAC

1 September-31 October 2018: residency of an Egyptian artist Amira Hanafi in Nida
1 October-30 November 2018: residency of 2 Lithuanian artists Laima Kreivytė and Saulius Leonavičius in Alexandria
The residency is part of a new collaboration between MASS Alexandria and the VAA Nida Art Colony, made possible by the Founding Director of MASS Alexandria Wael Shawky, the Lithuanian Council for Culture, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, and the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to the Arab Rebublic of Egypt. The exchange is partly financed by the EU "Creative Culture 2014-2020" programme project "4Cs: From Conflict to Conviviality through Creativity and Culture".

The residency is complementing activities of the project 4Cs: From Conflict to Conviviality through Creativity and Culture. Participating artists are expected to focus on issues of conflict, rootless communities, migration, displacement, ways of making strange territories your own, conviviality, identity and related experiences. There are no limits on time or geographical area if the artist chooses to work on specific historical events. Please refer to the description of the project for further information.
ABOUT VAA Nida Art Colony, Artist-in-residence programme, our facilities and equipment.
FINANCIAL SUPPORT/GRANT. The artist selected for this residency will receive a grant, which covers the visa, airfare for his/her flight from Alexandria to Vilnius and back, the airport transfer to/from Nida, the health insurance in Lithuania, the honorarium of 700 Eur/month to cover his/her living expenses, and a production budget. In addition, NAC will provide a private living and studio space and organise a presentation of his/her work in Nida and/or Vilnius within the framework of the 4Cs project. Please note that NAC cannot provide the artist-in-residence with a production budget for large-scale formats (solo show etc.), but is committed to provide funds for the kind of work he/she develops while in residency.
