Do books really stand on their own feet? How not to run a store? What is the social life of books? After 8 Books is a bookstore and publishing house in Paris. The bookstore, onsite and online, welcomes the printed endeavours of contemporary artists, thinkers, writers, musicians, poets and other art workers. As a publisher, After 8 Books deals with the pragmatics and poetics of book making, developing projects with artists, graphic designers, writers, editors, with intellectual as well as sentimental attention. It is also active through a more DIY branch, Publication Studio Paris.
Benjamin Thorel is a publisher, art critic and one of the founders of After 8 Books; his talk will deal with the praxis of running such a project.
