Chantal Faust

Chantal Faust is an artist, writer, and Dean of the School of Arts & Humanities at the Royal College of Art, London, where she is also Professor of Contemporary Art. Her practice explores absurdity and haptic aesthetics, with scanning, performance, painting, video and installation works exhibited internationally. Her practice-led PhD on scanning and pleasure was awarded by the Victorian College of Arts / University of Melbourne in 2008. Dr. Faust’s research examines scanning as a means of experimenting with digital technologies, tactile perception, and the optics and mechanics of vision to challenge traditional image-making. She also focuses on absurdist philosophy in contemporary art practice, exploring the role of absurdity in artistic inquiry and meaning-making through teaching, publishing, performances, and lectures. Dr. Faust’s work on pedagogical developments in the art school context engages with contemporary debates that seek to shape the role, contribution and impact of arts and humanities practice and research.
