Anna Knappe

Anna Knappe is a visual artist and doctoral researcher at the Academy of Fine Arts, Uniarts Helsinki. Her work explores the intersections of migration, memory, media, and the ethics of image-making, often through video, installation, photography, and generative art. She is particularly interested in how collective memory is formed and mediated in diasporic contexts, and in the politics of visibility and invisibility within images. In her doctoral research, she investigates the fragmentary nature of diasporic memory, using generative AI as both a tool and a metaphor for incomplete and contested remembrance. Her practice builds on earlier collaborations with sociologists and anthropologists, and she continues to approach artistic research as a dialogical, iterative process that brings together artistic and theoretical perspectives.
