On Thursday, 23 July, at 6:00 PM, Forum Cinemas Vingis in Vilnius will host a special screening of ‘Twittering Soul’, a film by artist and filmmaker Deimantas Narkevičius. The screening will be followed by a conversation with him and Aistė Račaitytė, representing the film’s distributor ‘Taip toliau’.
In ‘Twittering Soul’, the first Lithuanian feature-length film made in 3D, Narkevičius weaves together historical facts, folklore, ritual, and a profound understanding of natural world into a psychedelic narrative set in the nineteenth-century countryside of Southern Lithuania, a time when the relationship between people and their environment was deeply interconnected and alive. By juxtaposing ancient knowledge with contemporary technology, the artist draws a parallel between the historical moment depicted in the film and the present day, offering a poignant reflection on the unique worldview of his homeland and the enduring resilience embedded within it.
Until 13 September the group exhibition ‘Dune’ is on view at Nida Art Colony of the Vilnius Academy of Arts, where Narkevičius’ work Akmenys po du is presented. Exploring closely related themes, the work and the film engage in a meaningful dialogue, complementing and enriching one another. See you there!
