NAC and AIR – ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Niederösterreich have conducted an annual residency exchange since 2013. AIR – ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Niederösterreich is a multidisciplinary fellowship program located in Krems an der Donau. The program gives architects, visual artists, musicians, and writers the opportunity to live and work in Lower Austria for a period of one to three months and to get to know the entire spectrum of local cultural institutions. In turn, AIR organizes residencies for Lower Austrian artists across Europe and overseas in conjunction with international-exchange partnerships.

In addition to realizing exhibitions, concerts, readings, and workshops, particular emphasis is placed on the production of work on site.  In the broadest sense, the aim is to facilitate and support the entirety of potential artistic forms of articulation and presentation, as well as to reflect on and engage discursively with the various ways of working.

The city of Krems is located directly on the Danube, approximately 80 km from Vienna and 30 km from St. Pölten, the capital of Lower Austria. Krems is one of the oldest cities in Austria, its history dates back more than a thousand years. Krems and the Wachau were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000.

Open call is announced in September-November.
