Siiri Haarla-Vahvelainen

Siiri Haarla-Vahvelainen studied painting at Uniarts Helsinki in 2004–2011 and at the Academy of Fine arts in Kracow 2006–2007 and predominantly works in figurative oil painting. Haarla-Vahvelainen lived in Berlin from 2013 to 2016 and since then  regularly works and exhibits there. After receiving a BA in comparative literature in 2020 Haarla-Vahvelainen became more interested in writing and transforming knowledge of painting and colour to verbal language. Her engagement with colour theory comes from the literary tradition of the genre and its practice in teaching painting.  Haarla-Vahvelainen has been teaching painting in Uniarts Helsinki and Free Art School since 2017 and began a PhD there in 2023.
