Astrid Bühlmann has been working independently as a conservator and restorer in Bern since 1990, specialising in easel paintings, sculptures and wall paintings. Her expertise extends to the professional transport of cultural assets, condition documentation, conservation framing with archival materials and climate-controlled storage solutions. She gained experience in leading restoration workshops, including working with P. Jordi in Wabern on easel and panel paintings and X. Stöckli Söhne AG in Stans on polychrome wooden sculptures and paintings. During her studies, she completed internships at the State Art Collections in Kassel, the Württemberg State Museum in Stuttgart and restoration studios in Bern and Zizers, refining her skills in wall painting, historic interiors and contemporary art conservation. Committed to continuous learning, she has pursued advanced training in conservation techniques, varnish aging and imaging technologies, regularly attending professional conferences with the Swiss and German Restorers’ Associations. Her career began with an apprenticeship as a gilder in Bern, followed by a federal diploma from the University of Applied Sciences for Conservation and Restoration. Her meticulous craft and dedication to cultural heritage preservation define her practice.
