Anita Zariņa is an environmental geographer at the University of Latvia whose research considers the geographies of places, landscape, nature, ecology, and environmental knowledge. In her past projects she has studied path dependent landscape change, discursive formations and representations of landscapes, and modernist transformation of wetlands. Currently her work is related to the shift in nature conservation from species protection to social-ecological processes at landscape scale that includes her interest in the changing geographies of national parks, rewilding, collaborative practices and human-animal relations. Anita has collaborated with Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art in the activities of the project “Communicating Difficult Pasts”.
