Nida Art Colony crew has just come back from Kaliningrad, where in the Museum of the World Ocean the collaborative exhibition "Telling The Baltic" was opened. In various locations of the Museum of the World Ocean works by Dainius Dapkevičius, Gintaras Makarevičius, Irma Stanaitytė, Jurgita Remeikytė and Laura Stasiulytė were exhibited. A special place was provided for the audiovisual installation by Irma Stanaitytė and Jurgita Remeikytė (sound and postproduction by Dainius Dapkevičius) - their work "Ship" was projected in the attic of the Kronprinz Barracks.
"Telling the Baltic" is a collaborative storytelling project. Stories for this project have been sought from fishermen, lighthouse keepers, ship mechanics, ferry personnel, sailors, islanders and dockers. The stories have been gathered in a public cross-boarder archive, and from the raw materials for artists who use them as inspiration when creating art-works. These artworks are a part of an exhibition touring the South Baltic region. The project partners gather a range of materials and "stories" from individuals who live within and who travel throughout the Baltic Sea regain. The collected material spans many forms and types and includes traditional interviews, photo essays, digital stories, historical and archival media, as well as accidental encounters, ambient sounds and abstract images, all gathered from sea-travelers, sea-dwellers and the sea itself. The stories that have been collected form the raw material and inspiration for artists from partner countries, who render them into artworks that are exhibited in museums and galleries around the Baltic Sea region throughout 2012-2013.
