Nida Art Colony is pleased to welcome two new residents, Nestori Syrjälä (FIN) and Franziska Reinbothe (DE).
Nestori Syrjälä (FIN) is an artist making participatory installations and documentary video works. He often works in collaboration with other artist, writers and researchers. For the past seven years he has been obsessed with the crisis in human relations with the environment. His project in Nida will deal with raising sea levels and the anthropocene: a geological time defined by human activity, characterized by climate change and loss of biodiversity. The ground under our feet, the air we breathe and the oceans that surround are all turning strange. The more we know the less familiar things appear.
Franziska Reinbothe (DE) is meisterschueler in the Class for painting at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig/ Germany. While involving different media, her reflection on art means an enlargement of painting. During the last few years she has sought for experimentation with diverse materials in her works, enabling her to open up new scopes for her art. Her working process is not only intended, but always includes intuitive actions. She considers painting as a flexible process, as a laboratory of boundary expansions as well as an intensive way of self-observation. What looks like a calculated conclusion is oftentimes the result not only of a far-reaching experiment, but also of consequently rethinking and reworking.
