Lynette Smith is interested in ambiguity ‒ how pervasive it is and how it shapes our actions and our experience of the world. Mostly, we don’t notice the quiet, unconscious effort going on in the background to stabilise meaning, even though it’s an effort that makes action and experience possible in the first place.

This idea is the thread through her drawing practice and, more recently, her work with video and other image making. At Nida, Lynette will be looking at, looking for, signs of instability and inconstancy in the country around her, and working on ways to put video and words into relation to one another, so that the effort is impossible to ignore.

Sybille Neumeyer is a traveling artist, currently living and working in Berlin. In her works she translates phenomena and structures observed in nature into installations, moving and still images, drawings and other media, through which Sybille tries to create a dialogue between personal knowledge, memory and a bodily experience of the artwork.

Searching for traces of human-nature-relationship Sybille Neumeyer is interested in the landscape around Nida and how the natural structures influenced its history. In Nida Art Colony she will focus on methods of exploration and observation as a practice of creating a personal impression of her surrounding. How does the environment affect and address the internal senses? A further question related to this investigation is how the experience of environment creates a shared impression of nature and how we express or impart it to each other.

Alicja Bielawska (b. 1980) from Warsaw (Poland), works with sculptures, drawings and text. She is focused on the materiality of everyday life and our relationships between objects and interiors. Although the objects she makes, usually from textile, metal elements, wood or modeling clay, do resemble things from everyday life, Bielawska often interferes with their proportions and scale. She is interested in what happens to our memory after we are exposed to her work and in the role of the relativity of our perception.

She was recently nominated for VIEWS 2015 – Deutsche Bank Award. During the residency in Nida Art Colony she will work on connections between sculpture and performance, introducing performance to her practice. Alicja Bielawska’s residency is organized in cooperation with Culture.pl and A-I-R Laboratory, CCA Ujazdowski Castle.

Šarūnas Nakas is a well known Lithuanian composer of contemporary classical music, essayist, conductor, performance and video artist, organiser of contemporary music festivals and presenter of radio programmes. “My compositions could be compared, in some respects, to macro-systems, like lakes, oceans, rivers, nebulae, star clusters, or vast Northern landscapes: it makes no sense to single out individual sounds, motifs or episodes in my music, because changes occur here at a very slow and hardly perceptible pace” , – says Šarūnas Nakas.
In Nida Šarūnas keeps on working on developing his music projects “Target” (for seven virtual cellos) and “Cypher” (for piano, electric guitar and translating objects). But the main activity is preparing of the multimedia exhibition “Juzeliūnas” Cabinet: Modernizing Lithuanity” at the National Art Gallery in Vilnius, October 2016. Nakas is curator and one of the artists of this exhibition.
