November 20, 2014 in KUMU museum, Tallinn (Estonia) an exhibition "Telling Tales. Swiss and Baltic Artists" was opened. The exhibition features art pieces by Baltic artists that reconsider the memory of the Soviet time, and those of Swiss artists, that question the fictitious, mythical histories and try to understand the ways in which archiving and storytelling are influencing the collective memory. In the summer of 2014 the exhibition was hosted by the National Gallery of Art in Vilnius.
Artists, participating in the exhibition, are: Eglė Karpavičiūtė (LT), Petra Elena Köhle / Nicolas Vermot Petit-Outhenin (CH), Laurent Kropf (CH), Paulis Liepa (LV), Dainius Liškevičius (LT), Lutz&Guggisberg (CH), Marge Monko (EE), Katrīna Neiburga (LV), Sandrine Pelletier (CH), Liina Siib (EE).
Lithuanian artist Dainius Liškevičius in the framework of this exhibition is presenting his new work "Ramybė", which is a part of the "Museum" project to be presented in the 56th Venice Biennial in 2015 as Lithuanian national pavillion. The piece represents personal history of the artist through the model of the Soviet era blocked-house and the community that was inhabiting it and which created the cooperative "Ramybė" (Engl. - "tranquillity"), which was one of the rare examples of making utopias of socialist ideologies real.
Last friday Dainius Liškevičius opened his personal exhibition "Labyrinth" in the Contemporary Art Center in Vilnius. This exhibition discloses the artist as a great storyteller of a complex history, constructed out of pieces of personal stories, world history and fiction. Quadrate construction of the exposition is divided into sixteen particles, and hosts various found, accumulated, created, reconstructed objects, which are tightly held by associative ties as well as are continuing the dialogue with the earlier works by D.Liškevičius and outlining the guidelines for new stories.
You can visit the "Labyrinth" until the 4th of January in CAC Vilnius, and "Telling Tales" in KUMU will be open up to the 1st of February.
