February brings "Ecrans d'Hiver" to Nida Art Colony

Tomorrow night "Ecrans d'Hiver" are coming for a visit to VAA Nida Art Colony. In the framework of our cosy Thursday cinema, we'll have the possibility to watch the joy of French cinema: a film "La Chutte des Feuilles" ("Falling Leaves") by Otar Iosseliani, and on Friday we'll continue with "Nathalie Granger" by Marguerite Duras.

Born in Georgia, Otar Iosseliani started his film career in his homeland, but due to the constant censorship of the Sovier regime, left it for France in 1984. Here in 1968 his first full-length film "Falling Leaves" was met with the FIPRESCI award at the Cannes Film Festival.

About "Falling Leaves": a young idealist takes a job at a local state run winery only to discover and become disillusioned by the corruption of the Soviet State.

On Friday we'll be making a tribute to the French writer and film director Marguerite Duras, born exactly 100 years ago. The author has almost half a hundred novels, short fiction stories, essays, plays and films on her bibliography, and nearly twenty films in her filmography.

"Nathalie Granger" is an early feature by M. Duras, atmospheric and rather tense. An indefinable narrative boosts the tension that starts growing in the silences and chiaroscuro of a picturesque house, sounding with abandonment and piano lessons. A crisis is constructed around a girl, Nathalie, which is acting violently in school, accompanied by two rather expressionless women, but the overall story reflects the general feeling of abandonment and emptiness.

Films will be screened in the original language with Lithuanian subtitles.
Like all the good things, films in NAC are for free. We're looking forward to seeing you :) on the 6th and the 7th of February, 19.00.
