On the first winter Thursday, the 5th of December, at 6:00 pm Nida Art Colony invites you to the last evening of the art documentary program prepared by studio “Nominum”. This time two films will be screened – “Confession” by Oksana Buraja and “Marginal Zone” by Dali Rust. What is more, director Dali Rust is coming to Nida to present her film and answer the questions of spectators. Looking forward!

On screen:
“Confession” by Oksana Buraja (2008, 32 min., together with Lukas Trimonis) is a two-part experimental film that explores the very nature of creativity. The first part – “Crete Island” – was created and screened as a separate film in 2007. It’s the story of Kestas’s ludicrous attempts to fulfil his dream of getting to Crete. The second part – “Confession” – is like an “inside-out” of “Crete Island”, revealing the behind-the-camera reality and the brutal creative process which can sometimes lead to certain constraints. The author engages in remorseless attempts to pick up the scenes that are usually cut in order to create a cinematic illusion. These scenes are shown as an independent cinematic phenomenon which, although it travels to “Parts Unknown”, is one that nonetheless exists.
Oksana Buraja (b. 1972) is a Lithuanian director, graduated from Art of Acting (BA) and Television and Film Directing (MA) – both studies were completed in Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. Since 2000 she has been making movies in “Studio 2000”. Her films were awarded in varous international festivals in France, Brasil, Belgium, Norway, Russia etc. In 2013 O. Buraja’s film “Lisa, go home!” received a “Silver crane“ (Lithuanian film industry awards for best actors, directors and films) as a best short documentary film.
“Marginal Zone” by Dali Rust (2011, 25 min.). When the colony of cormorants established in Curonian Spit, they were inscribed into Lithuanian Red Book of Endangered Species. However, in 30 years the number of birds increased enormously and they became region enemy No. 1. Cormorants take part of fishermen’s catch; expand their possessions in the old woods, and men feel threatened. How many birds would be just enough to ensure they are not “dangerous” to consumerist people community? Cormorants’ colony-zone is a splendid example of the complicated relationship of men and his surroundings.
Lithuanian director Dali Rust (Dalia Cibauskaitė, b. 1965) was studying economy in Vilnius university, later worked as a film director in Lithuanian Film Studio and cinema studio “Kinema”. For a while she was assisting for Šarūnas Bartas in selecting actors. Dali Rust is also a member of Russian Union of Journalists. Her first film project – “The Keeper of Time” (2009) – is a film about a changing portrait of Kaliningrad city. In 2011 the director presented one more movie – “Nadezda” – about the solitude of a person. At the moment Dali Rust is creating documentaries and organising various cultural projects.
Take the last chance this year to see creative documentaries in Nida Art Colony. Film Thursdays are for free and everyone is welcome for a cup of tea and good cinema!
