August is a slow motion time in Nida

Although the house is full of people and things keep on moving, Nida Art Colony is suffering resort moods and slow motion. In a funnily touristic vibe of the Nida resort we are nearly starting to feel tourists ourselves. While sitting behind a glass wall of the office, we take our time to watch the passers-by watching us while they pass it on their way to the exhibition "Stories of Holiday Resort : Transparency", taking place in the hangar.
On the last days of July we have waved farewell our residents Grit Ruhland (don't hesitate to pop into the webpage she made during her residency period in Nida Art Colony: indexmap.org), Nastja Säde Rönkkö and Wilhelm Klotzek, and as the summer is unraveling itself towards autumn, we have some new residents arriving.
Since the begining of August one of the members of Swiss "Synops Collectif", Stéphanie Giorgis has been in Nida, soon we're expecting Maëlle Cornut to join her. The collaborative duo "Synops Collectif" is based in Vevey in Switzerland, its practice is situated in the context of its production, highlighting specific aspects of the places they are working in. The "Synops Collectif" is working here in the "Critical Tourism" programme with the grant by Pro Helvetia.
Among the recent arrivals there's also Lithuanian art critic and curator Laima Kreivytė, who among other activities is a participant of "Coolturistes" artist' group. Laima is the holder of Neringa Municipality grant and has already started her projects "Alternative Living" and "A Location of the Poet".
Last - but not least - new resident in VAA NAC is Gintaras Makarevičius, planning to work in solitary silence in his studio for a couple of weeks.
Two artist collectives that arrived to Nida in July are continuing their residencies here as well: "Opposite Solutions" (Claudio Cobilanschi and Daniela Palimariu from Romania) and serbian duo Andrea Palasti and Isidora Todorovic.
