Felix Kalmenson will share their research in Lithuania since 2016 and discuss their project The Dybbuk (7.5%), a proposal for the Yiddish Pavilion. The Dybbuk (7.5%) references the 1916 play ' The Dybbuk, or Between Two Worlds ' by S. Ansky and its conception of possession as deriving from an unfulfilled promise. In 'The Dybbuk' possession is mediated by staging a trail with a divider placed in the courtroom from behind which the possessing spirit appears and testifies. Using this analogy, The Dybbuk (7.5%) proposes a methodology by which space is demarcated by a divider, allocating a spectral container which exists alongside and contemporaneously with the space of the living, through which the process of truth and reconciliation can be staged. But the question still remains, how can we conceive of the process of repair and restitution as something more akin to the temporalities of what was lost, how to restitute centuries of worlds/lifeways.

The Artist Talk with Felix Kalmenson takes part in the programme of the Thomas Mann Festival and is funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture, Neringa Municipality, Goethe-Institut, Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Culture.
