Join for the talk by the artist Hiwa K at Vilnius Art Academy on Tuesday, 18 October, 16:00, Room 102.

In October the Kurdish artist and musician Hiwa K is in residency at NAC in Nida. He finally could visit the sites (among them Nida decaying open air stage) at the center of the Nida version of the project Chicago Boys—While We Were Singing, They Were Dreaming that NAC has been working on since 2020. During his time in Lithuania, Hiwa K stays in Nida as well as Vilnius, an opportunity kindly made possible thanks to Sodas2123 and is happy to meet the VAA community, talk about his work and share his experience. Hiwa’s projects are well documented on his website and vimeo - a chance to have a closer look prior to the meeting!

Hiwa K got his basic education in Iraq and continued independent studies by meeting thinkers, visual artists, musicians and theatre makers. After moving to Germany at the age of 25, he studied music under flamenco master Paco Peña. Three years ago, Hiwa K returned to Sulaymaniyah, Iraqi Kurdistan. There, he has acquired a farm and with local people studies how to promote permaculture, i.e. how to live in harmony with the environment. His way of being an artist is reflected in continual criticism of the art-education system, professionally defined art practices, and the artist myth.

The talk will take place during the course Curatorshipby Valentinas Klimašauskas at FAMM department. The talk will be held in English and is open to the public.
