We are happy to welcome the artists Gisèle Gonon, Liene Pavlovska, and Jasmine Reimer to Nida. After a busy schedule of performing and conducting DJ workshops in Nida and Vilnius, Gigsta, the resident of Nightlife Residency as well as Seyoung Yoon continue the second and final month of their residency at NAC.

Gisèle Gonon lives and works in Berlin. In her practice Gonon dissects economic and social processes related directly to her own environment, in particular labour, agriculture, and territorial politics. In Nida, Gonon will make a video montage around the Berlin agricultural protests of early 2020, and she will further deepen the sociological, iconographic, and formal research of the events.
Gonon is the co-founder of the CCPC collective [Collisions, Cataclysms and Construction Permits] and participated in the Goldrausch-Künstlerinnen Projekt. Her works were recently exhibited at Continuum in Bordeaux, Ostfriesland in Berlin, and Baumwollspinnerei in Leipzig (2019).

Liene Pavlovska lives and works in Riga. She is a visual artist and scenographer. Her work is constructed around the interest in social-economic society models and collective desires resulting from them, as well as how they determine the living space of humans and other beings. She is engaged with a question of how to imagine new, inclusive future scenarios on the ruins of existing ideologies? Pavlovska is researching and using theatrical modes of expression and the experience of catharsis in the context of visual art. Her work manifests as multimedia, spatial installations. In Nida, Pavlovska will analyse the spatial politics of the Curonian Spit as a Unesco World Heritage site, continuing research she started during a HIAP residency on the Suomenlinna island of Helsinki, focusing on a defense fortress, another Unesco World Heritage Site.
Pavlovska received her Master`s degree in Scenography from the Art Academy of Latvia, and from the Sandberg Institute, Studio for Immediate Spaces in Amsterdam. She recently had her first solo show at KIM? Contemporary Art Centre in Riga (2019).

Jasmine Reimer lives and works in Berlin and Toronto. In her sculptures, installations, and performances Reimer captures transformation and hybrid forms, corporeal experiences and  excess. She researches historic and contemporary goddess symbols, and how these woven into fabrics or voiced in song-speak of kin-like relationships, ecology, spirituality, and religion. In Nida, Reimer will focus on matriarchal societies of the Neolithic and Bronze Age in Eastern Europe, studying the work of archeologist and anthropologist Marija Gimbuta as a leading reference. Reimer’s solo exhibitions were shown at Forest City Gallery in London, Ontario (2018), Georgia Scherman Projects in Toronto, and Projet Pangee in Montreal (2017).

Seyoung Yoon (lives and works in Berlin) works with installation, painting, video, and writing. Her recent solo shows include Éclair in Berlin (2019) and Bar du Bois in Vienna (2018). Her works were recently exhibited in group shows at Lars Friedrich in Berlin (2020), Mother Culture in Berlin (2020), and Galerie der Stadt Schwaz, Schwaz (2019). In Nida Yoon will focus on the book that she has been working on – a publication about current South Korean art and artists published by NAC and After8Books in Paris, funded by KAMS.

Gigsta (lives and works in Berlin) gets as much joy dancing to music as she does reflecting on it – as an academic researcher, DJ, producer, promoter, radio host, and zine maker. Her show on Berlin’s Cashmere Radio, Fictions, gives you a feel for the breadth of her enthusiasm (recent themed shows have covered Bandcamp edits, laughter, the cosmos, and Anne Garreta’s experimental novel Sphinx). Gigsta recently curated a zine with and about women writing on dance music. But it’s in the club where Gigsta’s DJing really shines. She might throw together playful disco with obscure bass-heavy grooves, deftly switch tempo multiple times in a set, bleed in the odd cut-out sample hinting at an oblique theme, or incorporate her own edits. Gigsta is a resident at the Berlin-based queer femme and non-binary forward collective Room4Resistance, promotes her own parties called Fictions, and has been invited to perform in many clubs and festivals across Europe. However, her gig schedule is organised at train pace: in 2019, Gigsta decided to stop flying completely. Gigsta currently writes her PhD thesis Techno taken at its word: electronic dance music criticism in Germany, France and the United Kingdom 1986–1999 at Université Rennes 2 in Comparative Literature.
Gigsta’s residency is co-funded by Goethe-Institut Lithuania via Thomas Mann Cultural Center and Lithuanian Council for Culture.
