| In March, the artists Alexander Höglund, Kristin Wenzel, Mirimari Väyrynen, and Thomas Splett will join Mohadeseh Rahimitabar and Susie Green (who have been at NAC since February). Alexander Höglund lives and works in Malmö. His interdisciplinary approach deals with questions related to escapism and the everyday ideology of artistry. In recent and ongoing works, Höglund plays with the potential of game engines as tools for art production. Höglund has recently exhibited and presented work at the Taitung Museum of Art, Taiwan (2018), Kunstfort in Amsterdam (2017) and Index, Foundation for contemporary art, in Stockholm (2019). Höglund is also a co-founder of the art and music collective PLX. With Alexander Höglund in residency in Nida, NAC starts a new partnership with Region Blekinge. Kristin Wenzel lives and works in Bucharest, Düsseldorf and Gotha. Wenzel’s recent work has shifted towards public space by imagining structures and alternative ways of working with it. With installations, sculptures, and interventions, she tackles the implications of public architecture. In 2018 she co-founded Template, an exhibition project in Bucharest. Recently her works were exhibited at Suprainfinit Gallery, Bucharest (2019/2020), Salonul de proiecte, Bucharest (2019), and Sightfenster, Cologne (2017). Mirimari Väyrynen lives and works in Helsinki. In her paintings and installations she investigates themes of ecology through motives of landscape. Väyrynen is interested in contemporary landscape as a process and as an embodiment of cultural and societal values, yet subordinate to globalisation, pollution, and technology. Her works were shown in Forum Box in Helsinki (2017), Blanca Soto in Madrid (2017), and Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen (2016), among other places. Thomas Splett is an artist, thinker, and chimera based in Munich. He is following life through images. His friendship with images highlights minor details in events and social conditions, revealing significant relations between outward public appearances, actions, and latent conditions or internal motivations. Splett’s works have been shown, among others, at Popps Packing in Detroit (2020 coming), Studio Galeria Budapest (2018) and Station Neumayer III in Antarctica (2017). He co-runs the off-space Milchstrasse. Mohadeseh Rahimitabar lives and works in The Hague. Rahimitabar works in a variety of media, including print, painting, sculpture, video, and performance. She is interested in questioning the role of norms, values, and rules that shape the identities and human bodies in social and cultural contexts. Her works have been exhibited in HEREart, New York (2018) and Women Made Gallery, Chicago (2017). Mohadeseh Rahimitabar’s residency at NAC was financially supported by Stroom Den Haag. Susie Green lives and works in Newcastle upon Tyne. Green works predominantly in painting, performance, and sculpture. Her practice encompasses exhibition-making, live music, and fashion, focusing on the human body as a site for ornamentation and sensuality. Green’s works have been presented at Kunstraum (2019) and Jerwood Space (2018) in London, and Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2018). Green’s residency at NAC is realised in collaboration with BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art thanks to the initiative of the Lithuanian Culture Attaché in the United Kingdom and Lithuanian Culture Institute (LCI). |
