Danger, high voltage! In July, Nida Art Colony studios host the artists Žygimantas Kudirka, Ulijona Odišarija and James Lowne, Rebecca Stephany and Mathias Lempart, Marianne Vierø, as well as curators Dovilė Tumpytė and Marina Valle Noronha, who intensively work on the upcoming summer exhibition Life Intense.
A Danish artist living and working between Copenhagen and Berlin Marianne Vierø creates, as she calls it, nonsensical rebuses in the form of installation, sculpture and print. Employing an idiosyncratic visual vocabulary, Marianne works on the installation that establishes a space for reorganization of values between images, found objects, matter, and the meanings they bring.

The writer, artist and performer, founder of the avant-garde rap band VLN Energia Žygimantas Kudirka (LT) works on the immersive installation Autonomous Car that will absorb the visitor into the parallel universe of the sexuality of non-living things.

Having a background in fine arts the artists Ulijona Odišarija (LT) and James Lowne (UK) will participate in the group show as a musical duo Steve & Samantha active since late 2017. The London-based band’s interests spread across experimental composition of songs and exploring what pop music can be. For the exhibition the artists are working on a new sound project that investigates the interplay of music and embodied listening practices.

Thanks to the Goethe-Institut sholarship German artists and designers Rebecca Stephany and Mathias Lempart are staying in residence since June to the end of July. They develop a visual identity for the Colony’s summer exhibition which will balance between a piece of art and graphic design.

Curators-in-residence Dovilė Tumpytė (LT) and Marina Valle Noronha (BR/FI) work on curatorial concept, write texts and take care of organizational issues of the exhibition Life Intense, paradoxically hoping that following the norms of intensities will not cause neither them nor artists to collapse. The residence of Marina Valle Noronha is partly supported by Nordic Baltic Countries Mobility Programme. |
