On the 28-30th of June 9th and last Inter-format Symposium on the Fluidity of Humour and Absurd took place at Nida Art Colony. Curators Lívia Páldi and Vytautas Michelkevičius brought together artists, practitioners, and researchers who explore as well as question the role and critical potential of comedy, humour and the purpose of the absurd within contemporary art and related theories.

Humour, as you might guess, is not all fun and games. During three days and nights in Nida the participants of the Symposium applied various approaches, some of which were experimental or improvisational, to reflect in one way or another on how we employ humour as a medium to ponder social, ecological, (cultural)-political complexities as well as the absurd situations they generate.

Since Inter-format Symposium, as the name suggests, is an interdisciplinary event, the (human) audience witnessed not only lectures, some jokes here and there, and performances, but participated in a guided walk, were encouraged to reach full consciousness of their animality and had the chance to listen to some musical pieces.

Participants: Lissette Olivares, Olav Westphalen, Gernot Wieland, Lívia Páldi & Vytautas Michelkevicius, Error Collective (Ernest Truely & Justin Tyler Tate & John Fail), Irina Gheorghe, Lisette Olivares, Janks Archive (Ben Kinsley & Jessica Langley), Carla Gannis & Yuliya Lanina, Žygimantas Kudirka, Dafna Maimon, Lindsey White, Michal Libera, Verena Seibt & Markus Zimmermann, Masha Fomenko & Petr Laden, Paulina Eglė Pukytė, and Kasia Fudakowski.

Facilitating artists: Donatas Linkus, Marta Frėjutė, Saulė Barley (Miežytė), and Lukas Strolia
