| With the help of two biggest yearly Nida Art Colony events – 9th Inter-format Symposium and summer exhibition – summertime in Nida will be filled with laughter and art. Residents Olav Westphalen, Dafna Maimon, Justin Tyler Tate, Rebecca Stephany, Mathias Lempart, and Žygimantas Kudirka have gathered to provide a quality content for the Symposium. |
| The 9th Inter-format Symposium (curators Lívia Páldi (HU/IE) and Vytautas Michelkevičius (LT)) will reflect on how we employ humour as a medium to ponder social, ecological, (cultural)-political complexities as well as the absurd situations they generate. It will take place on the last weekend of the month, 28-30 June.
Well-known artist in the field of combining contemporary art with humour Olav Westphalen is working on the opening lecture of the Symposium and a participatory happening. Olav founded The Museum of Modern Comedy in Art (MoMCo) and, together with Livia Paldi, compiled the reader Dysfunctional Comedy (Sternberg Press, 2016). For artist Dafna Maimon humour and participatory performance are no news. During the residency she is developing „Human Hound Program: Deed of Dog“, a two piece programme that consists of directed experience and piligrimages in the dunes. Justin Tyler Tate (Error Collective) is working in the various mediums. For the special evening event “ErrorLateNightLounge Featuring Serious Introspection” he is constructing a particular environment and decorations. Žygimantas Kudirka, whom you have probably encountered in many creative fields, for this year‘s Symposium is working on a new diary-like sound performanse “extrrnal memory". Thanks to the Goethe-Institut sholarship German artists and designers Rebecca Stephany and Mathias Lempart will stay in the residency for two months. They will be developing a visual identity for the Colony‘s summer exhibition which will balance between a piece of art and design. We will provide more information on the upcoming summer exhibition Life Intense (curators Dovilė Tumpytė (LT) ir Marina Valle Noronha) shortly. Hint: the exhibition borrows its title from the book The Life Intense by speculative realism thinker Tristan Garcia, who believes that to follow the norms of intensities not only upgrades but also causes us to collapse. |
