Highlights of the Open Studios in January 2019

On the 26th of January, artists Kristina Marić (HR), Sandra Kosorotova (EE), Emily Dundas Oke (CA), Natalija Vujosević (YU-ME), Tara Langford (GB), and Marlaina Read (AU) presented their artworks and projects developed during the residency at Nida Art Colony. |
The event started at the studio of Sandra Kosorotova (EE) where she presented her research about the illness and its effects on her routine as an artist in residency. She was working on text pieces investigating the connections between the sanatorium in the novel Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann and Nida Art Colony, art and therapy.
Emily Dundas Oke (CA) created an installation of glass beads decorations, textile pieces, and photographs. The artist was researching her family roots, traditions, and land changes. During the residency, Marlaina Read (AU) worked with textile pieces that artist dyed with organic materials such as onion, turmeric, and avocados. She created a photography series and sewed a dress for her performance that she was wearing during the fictional wedding ceremony. Natalija Vujosević (YU-ME) and Tara Langford (GB) wrote a script for the video work about luxury tourism in the future. The artists turned a sci-fi narrative to installation that included texts, photographs, and other objects. Kristina Marić (HR) presented photography and video documentations of her performances in which the artist is hiding, playing, and reordering the sand and mire. In the exhibition space all residents presented a joint group text and textile installation called Maramica.
