At the residency Naomi Woo (CA) was researching touch in theoretical and practical way. What is the touch of the piano? How do we understand the touch in general? The artist was interested in how the body contacts another object and how it becomes an extension of the piano in the sound creation process. Hanna Schaich (AT) had been reflecting her previous creation. Artist used autobiographical narratives and inspirations from the surroundings of Neringa and created photographies, video performances, and writings. Julia Heurling (SE) was interested in a visual repetition of surroundings and how repetition of singular object is changing its meaning. She selected two common objects of Nida landscape – the forest and the paths – and transformed their photographed images into pattern compositions. The artist used it to create a photo collage and 3D models from paper. Giedrė Mickūnaitė (LT) had been focusing on finishing her book that is going to be published in the near future. In her writings she analyzes the cultivation of culture, how repetition is strengthening ideas, ways how words can shape things and create stories. Amira Hanafi‘s (USA/EG) research was based on the book she accidentally found in the library during her previous residency in Switzerland. After discovering that the book, which was supposed to be scientific, was fictional, Amira started to do the research on the author of the book and. finally, found out about the dramatic story of his life. Why was he lying? How is identity constructed? Why people do believe in fake news? These were just few questions, among others, that the artist was pondering during the residency. |
