The month of May at Nida Art Colony is busy with 8 residents working on two different projects this summer that will turn Nida to a desired destination for art, knowledge exchange, and the sea.

Tessa Zettel & Sumugan Sivanesan (DE/AUSTRALIA), Špela Petrič (Slovenia/NL), and Dovydas Korba (LT) are developing their projects for the 8th Inter-format Symposium on Rites & Terrabytes. In June they will be joined by artist Gwenn-Aël Lynn (USA/FR) who is working with olfaction as his main artistic medium. He has already been at the Colony in 2011 and produced Olfactory Map of The Curonian Spit.

This year, the Inter-format Symposium curated by Andrew Gryf Paterson (SCO/FI/LV), Vytautas Michelkevičius (LT), Jurij Dobriakov (LT), and Jogintė Bučinskaitė (LT) will happen during midsummer on 20-24th of June and host more than 50 other participants: musicians, artists, curators, philosophers interested in indigeneity and (re)construction of traditions in the post-anthropocene world.

The second group of artists are working for the Summer Exhibition which is continuing an in-depth artistic research on the local landscape and its architectural as well as bio-political qualities in the global flows. In a way, the forthcoming exhibition shares some similarities with the previous group exhibition Hybrid(…)scapes in 2016. This time curator Vytautas Michelkevičius invited 4 artists and duos to produce new solo projects during the residency that would accommodate the exhibit as a coherent whole. This Summer Exhibition is being designed in a transdisciplinary nature since most of the participants are coming from different backgrounds other than visual arts. The participants of the event are: biologist and artist dr. Špela Petrič (Slovenia/NL), performing artist and composer Lina Lapelytė (LT), artists duo Anna Romanenko and Bjorn Kuhn who have gone down in history of the Colony with their amazing underwater project Liminal Dome (together with Gabriel Hensche).

Architects, curators, and researchers Petras Išora and Ona Lozuraitytė (LT) will both participate as contributors and architects of the exhibition. They have been recently involved as co-curators and commissionaires of the Baltic Pavilion in Venice Architecture Biennale in 2016 and the authors of an exhibition Shaping the Landscape at the National Gallery of Art in Vilnius.

The Summer Exhibition will open on 20th of July, during Thomas Mann festival, and will be running until the 31st of August.
