Over the course of 13 years, Italian author Italo Calvino worked on a series of short stories exploring the human senses. The final three of these were compiled in the book Under The Jaguar Sun in 1986. In Nida, the sun has been hiding for some time now: the sky is shrouded in fog, its hue an off-, cracked, or shell-white. November makes one listen to the wind howl, fiercely, as it races between the jagged rooftops.

To shield the ears and stay warm, some choose to remain indoors. I’d like to invite you to join me in doing just that, with a book in hand. We’ll have tea, and together we’ll read a passage from A King Listens by Calvino. This story will serve as a springboard for me to share certain aspects of my artistic practice and process.

Organised by Laura De Jaeger as part of her NAC artist residency.

The residency is supported by Flanders State of the Art.
