Isora x Lozuraityte Studio for Architecture (IXL) was founded in 2014 in Vilnius by architects Petras Išora and Ona Lozuraitytė. The creative duo pursue a cooperative practice that brings together various fields, including architecture, public space and infrastructure, design, art, ecology, landscape, and environments of display. Their work is grounded in a cross-disciplinary approach that explores how architecture can engage with cultural, social, and ecological contexts.
In 2021, IXL was honoured with the Vilnius City Municipality Award of St. Christopher for “a synergy between conceptual art and architecture.” In 2023, working in collaboration with others, they were also recognised as Emerging Architects of the Year by the Lithuanian Union of Architects. Their architectural projects span a wide spectrum—from riverfront public spaces and bridges to sustainable strategies for culturally significant buildings, as well as reactivation projects for structures and spaces used by interdisciplinary communities. Among their notable works are the development of the SODAS2123 artist community complex and the Culture Garden.
Išora and Lozuraitytė have also designed architectural environments for a number of important exhibitions, such as the Baltic Triennial 14 at the Contemporary Art Centre (CAC), Vilnius; Jonas Mekas and the New York Avant-Garde at the National Gallery of Art, Vilnius (2021); the permanent display of Lithuanian art at the same gallery; and the Lithuanian Space Agency and Julijonas Urbonas’s installation at the Biennale Architettura in Venice (2021). They have contributed curatorial perspectives as well, serving as the curatorial team for Forming the Landscape at the National Gallery of Art, Vilnius (2017), and as co-curators of the Baltic Pavilion at the 2016 Biennale Architettura in Venice.
A long-standing collaboration with Pakui Hardware has led to the realization of large-scale installations across several European institutions, including the architectural and landscape design for the Lithuanian National Pavilion and the installation Inflammation at the Biennale Arte, Venice (2024).Among their recent projects in Lithuania is a collaboration with AFTER PARTY on a pilot dual project: the country’s first institutional ensemble of fully wooden buildings, comprising the National Forestry HQ and a forest park with an info-centre exhibition pavilion—a forward-thinking model that merges architecture, sustainability, and public engagement.
