- Residency period: Winter 2024—2025
- Individual Residency
Marit Westerhuis is an Amsterdam-based artist with an MFA from the University of Applied Science in Groningen and a residency at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten. She creates kinetic installations that combine organic elements like moss and water with industrial materials like steel and PVC. Using robotics, her work mimics natural movements, crafting immersive environments where nature and technology collide in unsettling ways. Westerhuis’ art explores humanity’s pursuit of progress and its ecological toll. By integrating mythology, history, and contemporary issues, she invites reflection on humanity’s bond with technology and nature. Recent exhibitions include showcases at Friche la Belle de Mai in Marseille (2024), Nieuw Dakota in Amsterdam (2023), and a solo show at Groninger Museum (2022).
The residency is supported by the Mondriaan Fund.
