Marika Vandekraats, The Colonial, Familiar, Nostalgic, Radical, Transformative Life of the Strawberry, 2024
  • Residency period: Winter 2024—2025
  • Individual Residency

Marika Vandekraats is an artist and writer based in Rotterdam. Her research focuses on the human entanglements tied between nature and capital to frame extractivist processes that have irreversibly affected the climate. This is exemplified in her recently published collaborative publication, The Colonial, Familiar, Nostalgic, Radical, Transformative Life of the Strawberry (HumDrum Press, 2024), which examines the colonial history and contemporary exploitation of the strawberry. Alongside her artistic practice, Vandekraats runs a roaming library called Reading Room Rotterdam and is currently working with Casco Art Institute and Utrecht University to employ a method of ‘harvesting’ in preparation for ‘Whose Ocean?’ – an assembly for the rights of the ocean.

The residency is supported by Mondrian Fonds and CBK Rotterdam.
