- Residency period: Autumn 2025
During the residency at Nida Art Colony last November Albanian born artist Gerta Xhaferaj further developed her ongoing series of work. Titled ‘A Pause, a Rose, Something on Paper’, it employs a video material taken by the artist in her childhood and documenting various family celebrations in 1990s Albania.
The footage was later enhanced by the artist’s father who substituted certain fragments with images of flowers and fruits. The video archive was later once again distorted by time itself.
Gerta Xhaferaj is an artist sharing time between Albania and Switzerland. Her artistic focus lies in issues related to memory, censorship and oppression, while seeking to safeguard intense moments of beauty.
The residency was part of the project “Songs of Serpents – Ecopoetic Zones”
