The Open Studios day took place on 24th of November at VAA Nida Art Colony. Colony’s residents Lydia Nsiah (AT), Dalia Mikonytė and Adomas Žudys (LT), Julia Rautenhaus (DE), Tanja Lažetić (SI), Marie Raffn and Signe Boe (DK) opened their studios doors and presented the projects.

The fellows of this year’s Neringa City Municipality’s scholarship Dalia Mikonytė and Adomas Žudys (LT) presented a video projection titled “A Study of Neringa and the Curonian Spit” as part of their larger artistic project, “City Studies”. During the second residency month, Lydia Nsiah (AT) has been experimenting with photography engraving on paper. In the project space KIOSK, Tanja Lažetić (SI) presented a site-specific installation “The witch is not at home”. She has also been experimenting with 10 kitschy plates fixed on the wall. Marie Raffn (DK) has been developing a new body of work for an upcoming exhibition “La Robe Chinoise” (“The Chinese Dress”). The starting point of the exhibition is a floor-length dress on which a Chinese poem is embroidered. Julia Rautenhaus (DE) has been exploring the history and architecture of hillforts. Artificial hillforts were placed and documented in the artificial Nida forest. Signe Boe (DK) has been researching the material qualities of aluminum as well as the language of birds. In her research, she has focused on the practice of humans training parrots to talk.
